Michael S. Swindell Sr.

Michael S. Swindell Sr. was born in Savannah, Georgia.  He was blessed to be adopted by two loving God-fearing parents and raised in the small town of Bamberg, South Carolina. He enjoyed small town life, spending many weekends in Charleston sailing up and down the coast.  Michael participated in football and track at Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School. Michael played football as an offensive lineman, defensive end all four years.  He was an All-Conference offensive guard his senior year. Michael threw shot put and discus for the high school track team all four years.

He attended The University of South Carolina for his undergraduate degree in History. Thereafter, he received his Law Degree from the University of South Carolina Law School and was licensed to practice law in South Carolina in 1989. Since then, he has focused his practice predominantly in Worker’s Compensation and Injury Representation in South Carolina. Michael has worked in the field of Worker’s Compensation and Social Security disability for 32 years.

Attorney Swindell is a member of the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina, a sustaining member of the Injured Worker’s Advocates – an organization that looks out for the interests of injured workers in South Carolina. He serves on the Legislative Committee for the organization, which monitors bills and works to create legislation that supports injured workers. 

He is also a board member of the South Carolina Worker’s Compensation Education Association, where he serves as the Treasurer of the Organization. The association consists of attorneys for both claimant and insurance defense, as well as insurance adjusters, doctors, and rehabilitation specialists. The association focuses on the law and how to practice effectively and efficiently in the field.

He was also appointed to the Richland County Transportation Committee by Legislator Nathan Ballentine. This committee is responsible for evaluating road and highway projects in the county. Once evaluated, the committee then approves or denies financing for multimillion dollar projects, depending on budget restraints.

After graduating from Law School, he met and married Columbia, South Carolina native Paula. They have three boys: Scott, Chad, and Ben.  The family spent many years supporting the boys’ sporting endeavors in football, cross country and wrestling. As a result, his hobbies include watching high school and college wrestling. He also enjoys following South Carolina Gamecock’s sports too, including football and women’s basketball.

Michael and his family are members of the Chapin United Methodist Church, and all enjoy singing in the choirs. He serves as a board member for the Mizpah Church Foundation. The Mizpah Church is a historic Church established in 1895 in the lower state of South Carolina.  The Foundation is responsible for the preservation of the Church and the annual family reunion celebrating the five founding families.
