Millie

For the Love of Poodles & Pooches
(FLOP)

“Millie is a female, miniature Long-haired Dachshund. She was 4 years old in the Summer of 2024 when she was surrendered to FLOP by a family that had her since she was a puppy, but found their lifestyle was no longer suited to having pets. My daughter, who is a volunteer foster for dogs from FLOP, helped Millie when she came into their care and she went directly to her house while she underwent medical and social assessments.

Millie is a remarkably quiet, gentle and loving girl with a wonderful social presence. I am a retired, single man, and had no desire to have a dog again. I have met many wonderful dogs being fostered and never succumbed. Millie had other ideas. She made it clear that she loved me, and I found I could not let her to go to someone else. She has been a member of my family since August 2025 and I couldn’t imagine a moment without her.”

Hailey

Sanctuary Rescue

“Hailey was adopted from Sanctuary Rescue. She is my best friend and helps me by helping me pull my socks off after work and lays them on the bed. She never misses an opportunity to notify me what’s happening outside. Delivery drivers, birds or squirrels.

Everything is important to her as my little helper to let me know. When I’m cooking something in the oven she always alarms me by coming & barking to let me know the bell went off. Honestly, she rescued me from a life of loneliness. Hailey is a talker too; she always has something to say or to tell me when it’s time for a nap. She is an awesome lovely little dog who is my best friend. I’m thankful to have Hailey in my life.”

Sunny

Friends United with the Richmond Shelter
(FURS)

“Sunny is a 6 month old puppy we adopted in August from Friends United with the Richmond Shelter (FURS) and has been a wonderful addition to our lives ever since. We had been on the search for a dog that fit well into our family as our son, has allergies and asthma, and we would need to test things out. Thankfully, one day we had the opportunity to play with Sunny for two hours at an adoption stand and he didn’t have any flare ups!

We are beyond grateful to be granted with the opportunity to welcome Sunny into our home. Sunny loves running on sand at the beach and following the geese at the lake. Every day we look forward to coming home to him standing on his hind legs, waiting to trade kisses for belly and back rubs.”

Barbara

Beagles & Bentleys

“Barbara was rescued along with her four puppies. They were all in rough shape, no one knows what happened to them prior, but thanks to Beagles & Bentleys they were on the path to getting better. A year and a half later, Barbara has gained so much confidence and even though she might be a little shy at first, she will greet people and even meet other friendly dogs now! The best way to her heart? A tennis ball. We have at least 47 different ones of all shapes and sizes lying around the house and she knows the names of all of them! Sometimes, I’ll even wake up to find tennis balls in the sheets that have been left there.

She’s famously stubborn, and will debate you on just about anything, though she conveniently turns into a complete sweetheart when snuggles and her toys are on the table. She is fully convinced she is the undisputed ruler of the household—and to be fair, she makes a strong case. Barbara treats “bougie” not just as a phrase, but as a full-time commitment. She is a true terrier–incredibly stubborn (some might call it hardheaded, the verdict is still out), fast as lightning with energy that never ends, and very loyal to her people. She is perfect, but I am a little biased 😉 “

Ember

Richmond SPCA

“My partner and I had been talking about getting a dog for a while and it wasn’t until the crazy ice storm in January that we impulsively decided to go to Richmond SPCA. Ember was a shy, tiny girl who had we had no idea what kind of dog she was going to grow into. In just two days, that shy girl blossomed into the cutest, most mischievous little menace and very quickly learned how to use her cuteness to her advantage. She has two cat siblings at home who she loves to be the annoying little sister to and taught her how to perch on furniture. We spoil her a lot, we give her the best treats and have found she is a big fan of ice cream and pups cups, often not hesitating to try and steal some of yours if you aren’t looking!

In Embers free time she is either lounging by the TV, begging for treats, or following her humans. She is a frequent at “Ruff Canine Club” here in Richmond, it’s her favorite place and she loves to play ball with all her friends there of all shapes and sizes. She loves water and swimming in small pools or river banks and is hoping to visit the beach or a lake soon!”

Why Rescue Dogs?

Day One Dog Lovers

Ever since the 80's, where Joel brought his old dog, Fella, to star in his commercials, we have been firm believers in work being more fun with a furry friend by your side. That ideal remains true to this day, with our entire Richmond office being a dog friendly office!

They Need Our Help

It falls on us as humans and members of our community and society to help those that cannot help themselves and this goes double for animals. When times are tough, animal welfare slips through the cracks. Shelters get overrun, and the cost of medical supplies go up.

In Remembrance

On August 15th, 2024 we lost our beloved Office Dog Bunky from health complications. Bunky, was an older rescue who joined us from For the Love of Poodles (FLOP). While Bunky may have crossed the rainbow bridge, we keep his message alive with continuiing our Rescue Dog support efforts!

Your Choice Makes a Difference

When you choose to adopt over buying a dog, your decision doesn't just impact one animal's life, it impacts many. Your choice gives two lives the chance for another shot at life.

Life Will Never Be Boring

The bond humans share with animals is one that can never be replaced. From the early mornings cuddles to the late night zoomies, their unconditional love makes sure to keep every moment interesting!

Sit. Stay. Win.

Make Your Dog a Local Legend!

Frequently Asked Questions

How Many Dogs Can I enter?

You can enter as many rescue dogs as you own and have adopted!

Don’t feel discouraged and please enter again if you didn’t win last year, the only dog ineligble to win again is Moose, our current Canine Ambassador.

Be sure to send us the best photos possible as that may have been the deciding factor between you and another dog!

Currently, only dogs from a rescue are eligible for our contest, so be sure to pass on a link to the contest to any family member who might be eligible!

While we love a good foster story and support your actions in making space for another animal in need, your four-legged companion must be officially adopted from their organization in order to be eligible. If your foster already has a pending adoption, be sure to tell their future owner about our contest as the money will be going to the same rescue you foster from and support!

When times get tough, animal welfare is often the first to go. From animals with increasing medical costs to perfectly healthy ones; furry friends of all shapes and sizes are surrendered or found abandoned. Shelters get overrun and the unfortunate reality of the situation is tough decisions have to be made.

This is why we continue to support the efforts of rescues in our community, the non-profits and those who work together everyday towards ending animal cruelty. If you have spare space or time, please consider getting involved with a rescue near you. Ask them if they need any temporary fosters and you will see first hand just how easy it is to make a difference. Your decision can save a life.

Don’t have time? Consider donating money or supplies. Rescues are always in need of food, blankets, and puppy pads. Check their website or contact them directly if they have any emergency needs

You can vote once a day once voting starts! Voting will begin September 2nd and end September 9th.
